With the peak of summer in full swing, now is the perfect time to plan an impromptu patio soirée with some of your best babes (or a party for two with your significant other). With Canada turning 150 this year, President's Choice is celebrating summer with new takes on Canadian classics with the new PC Insider's Collection. I'm talking poutine flavoured smokies, maple infused marshmallows, lemon raspberry cheesecake truffles, fresh cold brewed coffee and more! I'm all about easy peasy and President's Choice is a no brainer - delicious flavours and classic simple items that will please everyone. I mean what is more summer than a smokie and roasted marshmallows?!

I always find summer comes and goes so fast, it's hard to soak up every minute of it, so I'm sharing five reasons you need to host a summer soirée!

With the craziness of life friends can sometimes get put on the back burner. Summer is the perfect time to set a date and get your favourite girls together to gossip and celebrate the season. I love nothing more than summer nights with my best girlfriends on the patio.

Weekends and summer get togethers are the perfect excuse to indulge just a bit - try new foods, savour different flavours and sip on yummy drinks. Like is all about balance and there's nothing like ending the week with some serious nostalgic comfort summer foods.

Canada recently celebrated a huge milestone birthday - 150! Time to celebrate with some Canadian classics - mama needs a bacon infused cesar!!

4. ESCAPE THE HEAT

There's nothing like a cool bev on a patio to beat the summer heat. We made these little personal cold brews and put them on ice for easy summer sipping - so yum!

5. YOU DESERVE IT

You have likely been working hard all year - with work, school, or whatever it is that occupies your mind, a summer soirée is the best stress reliever and the perfect way to celebrate your hard work and take in the summer.

NATIONAL PIZZA PARTY DAY //

It’s National Pizza Party Day!! What better excuse to grab your best babes, a bottle of rose and have a good old fashioned pizza party?! There’s nothing I love more than cozying up on a Friday night and indulging in some serious wine and comfort food. Now you can indulge guilt free thanks to Panago’s new #QualityWorthSharing initiative - 100% Organic Italian tomato sauce made from organic vine-ripened tomatoes, herbs and spices, as well as ham, Italian sausage, pepperoni and salami made from pork raised without the use of antibiotics.

Ordering Panago on a Friday night is so nostalgic to me, growing up Panago was my parents’ go-to for a weekend treat for me and my sister- there was nothing like my Dad coming home from work with his arms full of Panago Pizza boxes! Now that I’m older and needless to say, a little more health conscious than my ten year old self, it’s nice to know that there’s a healthier version of my favourite guilty pleasure! Their dough is also made fresh in store daily with 100% Canadian wheat and no artificial colours or flavours, so hellooooo pizza night!

Last weekend I grabbed my blogging bestie Sydney and we had the ultimate girls night in with pizzas, salads, wine, and of course some good movies! It was such a fun day and the perfect way to catch up.

PREPPING FOR CINCO DE MAYO //

I don’t think anything says Cinco de Mayo more than a crisp Corona. Corona is always my drink of choice while away in Mexico but it really is the perfect beer to have on hand for when your friends drop by - Cinco de Mayo or any other day of the year! This year, I’m planning on putting a bit of a twist on this classic favourite and making beeritas! I love adding a bit of citrus and sweet to my beer so these are perfect for our Cinco de Mayo celebrations, they’re also super simple!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Coarse salt

Ice

Corona

Limes

Simple syrup or agave syrup

Tequila

To start, rim all the glasses with coarse salt. Fill with ice and add the fresh squeezed juice of half a lime. Then, add your favourite sweetener, I used simple syrup but agave would also work perfectly! Fill with Corona and garnish with a lime wheel. If you’re feeling really adventurous, add just a splash of tequila!

These little cocktails are super refreshing and a total crowd pleaser.

I love easy recipes that are quick to whip up for guests. This Negra Modelo cheese sauce is so yummy and perfect for sharing!

Here’s what you’ll need:

8oz cream cheese

2 cups mexican cheese mix (cheddar, mozza, monterey jack)

One cup Negra Modelo

½ tsp Garlic salt

You will simply melt the cream cheese in a sauce pan, add in the shredded cheese and negra modelo, cook on low while constantly stirring until melted and combined. Add garlic salt to taste. Voila! A super simple and delicious cheese sauce for you and your amigos.

I chose to use Negra Modelo for this recipe because the dark beer adds such a rich flavour to the sauce and helps to enhance the rich taste of the cheddar and monterey jack.

Bring these two recipes together to create the perfect Cinco De Mayo celebration for you and your friends!
