5 WAYS TO CREATE AN INSPIRING SPACE //

Many of you know that I recently aquired a new office space, before that, I worked from home every day. Now, I go into the office maybe 2-3 times a week and the rest of my days are again spent working from home. Having a home office can be a blessing and a curse - you’re in the same space all day and all night, and mainly by yourself. It can be difficult to keep motivated and inspired. I wanted to share with you five ways I’ve learned to keep my space fresh and inspiring when I’m working from home.

5 WAYS TO CREATE AN INSPIRING SPACE

1. Keep your space clutter free and organized.
There’s nothing that gives me more stress and anxiety than a clutter-filled and disorganized space. Keeping not only my work space but my home in general organized and with as little ‘things’ as possible allows me to have a fresh and relaxed environment, free to let my creativity flow!

2. Inspiration boards.
No not Pinterest, I’m talking good old fashioned magazine clippings, fabric swatches, inspirational quotes, things that make your heart happy. Pick up a cork board and start creating an inspiring pin board that makes you want to jump right in. Hang it somewhere you’ll see it everyday for a constant reminder of your personal brand and what inspires you.

3. Put what you love and what you’re working on front and centre.
For me, being a clothing designer, I keep a clothing rack next to my desk so I can hang any pieces I’m working on, or just pieces that I love and that inspire me. If I’m working on blog content, I will hang any new pieces I’ve acquired to keep them top of mind when content planning. Having these items front and centre help me to stay focused and motivated on my latest projects.

4. Post your weekly/monthly/yearly goals.
It’s so important to have what you want and where you’re going top of mind. I like to write out my goals, whether it’s something I’m working on for the week, the month, or the year, and post it somewhere I will see it everyday - for me that’s my desktop, but you could post it on a mirror or wherever will help to keep it top of mind.

5. Pick up a fresh inviting scent.
There’s just something about working away with a candle burning that I just love! It makes my space feel that much more inviting and cozy. I picked up a couple new scents from The Atmosphere Collection™ Fine Home Fragrance by Glade® - N°1 Enraptured – Jasmine and Cedarwood and N°2 Bright – Sweet Pea and Pear. They both smell amazing and allow me to switch up my scent depending on my mood, the Jasmine and Cedarwood is enchanting and perfect for hubby, whereas the Sweet Pea and Pear is perfectly sweet and gorgeous on a spring/summer day. You can also save $1.00 when you buy any one Glade® Atmosphere Collection™ product at any Kroger stores so it’s the perfect time to refresh your space with a new scent!

NEW FAUCET NEW ME //

Thursday, 25 May 2017

I used to never want to invest in Danny and I's apartment. I always felt that since we were renting there was no point in putting that much effort into decor etc. However, lately I have come to the conclusion that I am SO wrong. Even though we are renting and it was only supposed to be a temporary thing until we bought a house (que insane housing market surge) now we're nearing two years here! I've decided it's better to invest in where you live and really make it your home because you can always take your belongings with you and incorporate them into your new space.

That being said, we recently switched up our old dingy faucet for the new Huntley Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet by American Standard which we picked up at Home Depot. You wouldn't think a new faucet would be as life changing as it is! The design is so sleek and the water pressure and options are so smooth! I love how you can adjust the spray settings and it even has a mister!!! Perfect for fresh flowers or herbs. It also has a detachable head for those items that don't quite fit under the faucet (like Gigi). It's crazy how the slightest change can switch up your space's whole vibe. You know when you get something new and you just want to reorganize and refresh to make room for your new glorious item? That's how I feel about our new faucet (ahh the little things in life), so excuse me while I clean and reorganize my whole kitchen!

MY OFFICE GALLERY WALL //

With Danny and I recently moving into a new apartment we had all the joys of redecorating and really making the space our own. I already had these pin boards from my old space and decided to snag some of my favorite prints from Minted to create an ever changing inspirational gallery wall in my office space.

I absolutely love the way it turned out - it's exactly what I was wanting! - a mix of desert vibes with pretty details and words of inspiration. It really brings everything I love together to create a gorgeous wall in the room I spent most of my time in.

If you're looking to add some gorgeous art prints to your home, try their awesome curated collections to find exactly what you're looking for!

NORDSTROM HOME //

Friday, 25 September 2015

If you follow me on , you would have seen that Danny and I are finally moving into a new apartment!! I hide it well but for two years we've been in my parents second house which isn't too bad as they have another house where they spend the majority of their time, but it wasn't Danny and I's, it wasn't our HOME. I think one of the best things about having your own space is making it a home and making it yours. Almost as soon as we got the good news I started browsing home decor shops. Since I'm still reeling from Nordstrom coming to Vancouver, I thought I'd pick my favorites from their home decor section - they have so many cute little unique pieces that would otherwise be difficult to find. I love that they're all in one place - makes for easy shopping!

CLOSET REFRESH //

Tuesday, 22 September 2015

Every season like clockwork I like to give my closet a little refresh. There's nothing quite as soothing as decluttering and getting rid of items you don't use. I saw this closet cleaning tip a few years ago and it has always stuck with me. I use this technique every season to declutter and organize for the upcoming months.

1. TAKE EVERYTHING OUT
Yes, every single last item, even things you know you will be keeping for sure, take them out. Your closet should be nothing but dust bunnies.

2. CLEAN
If your closet is like mine and has various shelving/carpeting etc. You may just want to give it a quick wipe down - you may think it's clean until you actually clean it ;)

3. SORT ITEMS INTO PILES
Go through every single item and form three piles - keep, maybe, and no. Once you've gone through everything I normally break down the no pile even further into what I can sell and what I will donate.

4. REORGANIZE
At this point after I've established the three (really four) piles, I will start organizing and hanging/folding the keep items back into my closet to get those out of the way. Once the keep pile is organized I go through the maybes, these are always a tough one for me, I always seem to find excuses to keep things! But you have to be tough! If you've either never worn the item, or haven't in years, or it's damaged - GET RID OF IT! Trust me you will feel much more refreshed with it gone. Once you have your last keeps from the maybe pile organize them back into the mix.

Doing this every few  months makes me feel organized and ready for a new fresh season! Try it!
