NORDSTROM HOME //

Friday, 25 September 2015

If you follow me on , you would have seen that Danny and I are finally moving into a new apartment!! I hide it well but for two years we've been in my parents second house which isn't too bad as they have another house where they spend the majority of their time, but it wasn't Danny and I's, it wasn't our HOME. I think one of the best things about having your own space is making it a home and making it yours. Almost as soon as we got the good news I started browsing home decor shops. Since I'm still reeling from Nordstrom coming to Vancouver, I thought I'd pick my favorites from their home decor section - they have so many cute little unique pieces that would otherwise be difficult to find. I love that they're all in one place - makes for easy shopping!

CLOSET REFRESH //

Tuesday, 22 September 2015

image via Object Style

Every season like clockwork I like to give my closet a little refresh. There's nothing quite as soothing as decluttering and getting rid of items you don't use. I saw this closet cleaning tip a few years ago and it has always stuck with me. I use this technique every season to declutter and organize for the upcoming months.

1. TAKE EVERYTHING OUT
Yes, every single last item, even things you know you will be keeping for sure, take them out. Your closet should be nothing but dust bunnies.

2. CLEAN
If your closet is like mine and has various shelving/carpeting etc. You may just want to give it a quick wipe down - you may think it's clean until you actually clean it ;)

3. SORT ITEMS INTO PILES
Go through every single item and form three piles - keep, maybe, and no. Once you've gone through everything I normally break down the no pile even further into what I can sell and what I will donate.

4. REORGANIZE
At this point after I've established the three (really four) piles, I will start organizing and hanging/folding the keep items back into my closet to get those out of the way. Once the keep pile is organized I go through the maybes, these are always a tough one for me, I always seem to find excuses to keep things! But you have to be tough! If you've either never worn the item, or haven't in years, or it's damaged - GET RID OF IT! Trust me you will feel much more refreshed with it gone. Once you have your last keeps from the maybe pile organize them back into the mix.

Doing this every few  months makes me feel organized and ready for a new fresh season! Try it!

CALIFORNIA //

Tuesday, 15 September 2015

A few weeks ago my whole family jet set off to California to watch my sister Joelle marry her best friend. It was such a magical time that I will treasure forever.

Danny, my sister Carissa, and I started our journey together flying out of Vancouver at a way too early four in the morning. As soon as we landed we scraped ourselves together and headed to the happiest place on earth. Disneyland is always an adventure and I don't think I will ever tire of this whimsical place. We all had our ears on and fully embraced our inner five year old - we rode every ride, ate every treat, and completely immersed ourselves in the world of Disney.

When our time in Anaheim was done, we took a leisurely drive down the coast to San Diego where we met with the rest of my family and friends - it was so surreal having everyone we loved in another city together. While we were there it was my Dad's birthday so we surprised him with a limo ride touring the local San Diego breweries (you can see the utter delight on his face above). Everytime he thought the day was coming to a close there was always just one more stop. We ended our day at a local piano bar - the shout house, which was an evening of even more beer and laughs.

The days leading up to the wedding were filled with excitement - from watching the Padres game at Petco stadium to biking around the city just the girls, we had a lot of fun. Finally the day of the wedding came - I've never experienced a more relaxed wedding day - Joelle was calm and excited all in one, I could tell she couldn't wait to see her knight in shining armor at the top of Mount Soledad. The ceremony was a dream - fighting off the tears was tough. I think I heard almost every guest say that they've never seen a more beautiful wedding and I would agree. It was the perfect day with everyone celebrating the love Joelle and Jose share.

Our last few days in California we headed back to up LA where we completely relaxed - some good pool time, dining and shopping were just what we needed before heading back to Vancouver.

California always makes for a beautiful vacation - I can't wait to return again soon and explore even more it has to offer.
