A Cozy Morning In //

Wednesday, 31 December 2014

Pajamas: Maison Du Soir | Sweater: Forever21 (old, similar1similar2) | Socks: Aritzia | Eyeglasses: Dolce and Gabbana | Ring: David Yurman | Mug: Renee Redesigns | Pillows: Caitlin Wilson Designs | iPhone case: maccs | Planner: maccs

Needless to say it's okay to be lazy during the holidays - turkey and sweets can definitely leave you feeling a little sluggish! I don't think theres anything I love more than spending the morning relaxing in bed with a good cup of coffee. We also had Mason visiting so he obviously had to join in the fun. Danny and I spent the morning curled up in these gorgeous Caitlin Wilson pillows while getting cozy in these super soft Maison Du Soir jammies. We've only got a couple more lazy mornings until it's back to reality so definitely take advantage of the last few days of the holidays and spend a morning sipping coffee and reflecting on 2014.

If you have never popped into Wishlist you must!! They are just the cutest with all sorts of fabulous goodies. Also not pictured (I must have been too busy snacking on it ;)) is the wonderful Petite Puf who was spinning all sorts of deliciously flavored candy floss. It was such a fabulous night! Oh my goodness I am SO excited for the holidays! I am such a sucker for Christmas and all the wonderful holiday activities, so no doubt I had so much fun putting this little post together. I originally saw this stamping technique here and decided to run with that idea, after all, we love us some polka dots around here! And who wouldn't love a parcel topped with an oh so yummy Ferrero Rocher?! Don't forget to share your #ferreromoment this holiday season on IG!

Grandma's Cherry Flips //

Friday, 5 December 2014

This is probably my all time favorite Christmas cookie and I think my family would agree. Everytime I make them they don't even last the day!! To me, it's not the holidays without a fresh batch of my Grandma's cherry flips. I use this recipe every year and it never disappoints. My grandma actually hand-wrote the above cookbook and noted all of our favorite recipes which is such a wonderful idea! I hope you enjoy these as much as I do, the recipe makes about 14 or so small cookies, if you have an event you're making them for or a larger family I would suggest doubling the recipe! Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup icing sugar
1 egg yolk
1 cup flour, sifted
1 tsp almond flavouring
1 bottle maraschino cherries, save liquid
chopped nuts (I use walnuts)

Cream butter until light.

Add sugar and mix well.

Add egg yolk.

Work in flour by hand. (I prefer to start with a spoon and then use my hands as it can be a bit messy at first!)

Pinch off walnut sized pieces, press in palm of hand, insert cherry and roll dough around cherry forming a ball.

Place on greased cookie sheet.

Bake at 325F for 10 minutes.

While the cookies are baking, make your icing. To make the icing, simply take about 1/4 cup of icing sugar, mix in the almond flavoring and a couple drops of the maraschino cherry liquid (always just add a couple drops and add more if needed! My home-ec teacher always taught me "you can always add more but you can't take away".)

Remove cookies from the oven and while still warm, dip the tops in the icing, and then the finely chopped nuts.

Enjoy!

First Snowfall //

Monday, 1 December 2014

Cardi: Plenty (30% off today only with code BLKFRI30!! | Top: Maccs | Hat: Forever21(old, similar) | Scarf: Nordstrom - on sale! 25% off! | Jeans: Jbrand | Boots: Zara (old, similar - 40% off today only with code CYBER!) | Sunnies: Maccs | Watch: Michael Kors (old, similar) | Lippy: MAC

Haha that last picture of Mason kills me, isn't he the cutest?! Danny and I brought him out to play with us in the snow the other day, because Vancouver had it's first snowfall over the weekend and we obviously had to frolic in it. It is SO cold here right now, I say SO cold and people in other parts of Canada are likely laughing as I guess it is only -5 here and like -20 elsewhere! But still that's pretty darn cold for Vancouver. There's something about the snow and cold weather that A. puts me in the Christmas spirit, and B. allows me to cozy up by the fire watching old movies and sipping hot cocoa. Speaking of Christmas, who else is super excited that it's December today?! This is definitely the most wonderful time of the year for me, and thank goodness I have already started my Christmas shopping (hoping to be ahead of the game this year) but I bet I'll still be that fool running around on Christmas eve - such is life.
